  dpc-7000 underwater digital camera

The SEA MAX DPC-7000 Underwater Digital Photo Camera captures high resolution 5‑megapixel still photographs and stores the images on an internal 1GB microdrive or uploads them over a two-wire RS-485 serial interface at up to 115.6 kbaud. Up to 500 high resolution images can be stored on the drive and later downloaded to a computer over a universal serial buss (USB). The DPC-7000 is available in both the NTSC and PAL video standards and includes a 28 to 84 mm (35-mm equivalent) 3:1 zoom lens behind an optical quality, water corrected Plexiglas domed view port. A video output serves as a viewfinder, and a long line video driver, which can drive up to two kilometers of RG-59U coaxial cable, is also included.

The RS-485 serial interface connects to an optional Surface Control Unit which relays the images over an RS‑232 serial interface to a computer and provides remote control of almost all of the camera functions, including the camera mode selections, zoom settings, recording and playback operations, all of the menu selections, and the lasers.

The DPC-7000 also includes a built‑in long range laser scaler which consists of  four 3‑mw lasers precisely spaced apart with one laser located at each corner of a 10-cm square. When turned on from the Surface Control Unit, the lasers project four thin beams of light directly in view of the camera. The light beams, which are green for long range penetration underwater, illuminate objects in their path with four bright green dots that are always the same distance apart regardless of the distance from the camera. The dots are visible in the photos and on any video monitor that is connected to the camera’s video output. Commercially available software can be installed on a computer and used for convenient point and click measurement of object size.
