The SEA
MAX TH-8800 HPU is a motor driven hydraulic pump
that incorporates the same motor as that used for the
SEA MAX TH-8000 Thruster. The
motor is directly coupled to the pump through an
adaptor, and can turn the pump at speeds from 1200 to
2000 rpm. The adaptor is custom designed by DSSI for the
particular pump.
Like the
TH-8000 Thruster, the HPU is
powered and controlled by a vector drive type
electronic drive module (EDM). The
EDM provides up to 15.5 kW of power in a closed loop,
factory calibrated system and controls the motor speed,
and therefore the pump speed, by estimating the
orientation of the permanent magnet flux vector to
determine the thruster motor shaft rotational position.
It connects directly to the HPU and is powered from an
AC or DC source over a range of voltages. The drive also
includes an RS-485 serial interface which is used to
configure the drive and to monitor its performance using
a PC or other host computer.
